🔨 Final International Women’s Week Work Taster Session – But Just the Beginning! 👷♀️✨
That’s a Wrap, Mears Group PLC and DYW LED wrapped up our final International Women’s Week session by welcoming 10 young women from Airdrie Academy to take part in our Mears Construction Talent Taster. These talented pupils showcased fantastic skill, enthusiasm, and determination as they explored Carpentry & Joinery, Plumbing, and Electrical Installation—proving that construction is a career path for everyone! 👏
This week, Mears and DYW LED invited 30 young women from 3 schools, Brannock High School, Buchanan High School, and Airdrie Academy to gain hands-on experience, build confidence, and take their first steps toward a future in construction.
This collaboration between Mears Recruitment Team Gavin Hay and their amazing #apprentice team and DYW LED has been key in:
✅ Providing real-world industry experiences to young people considering careers in construction.
✅ Breaking down barriers and encouraging more young women to explore the trades.
✅ Ensuring all participants had the right support, with DYW LED supplying PPE and breakfast to set them up for success.
As this marks the end of our International Women’s Week sessions, it doesn’t stop here! Mears will continue to open these opportunities to all pupils over the coming academic years, ensuring that more young people—regardless of background—get the chance to explore rewarding careers in construction.
The future of the industry is bright, diverse, and full of potential. Let’s keep building it together! 🏗️✨
